You may modify your domain information using a Domain Management Interface. In this interface you can edit your contact information for the domain, change DNS settings and other options. With some domain names you can lock or unlock the domain name as well.
You need your username and password to log in to the Domain Management Interface. If you do not have the username and password for your domain name, you can obtain this information from the Provider you use.
IMPORTANT: When I attempt to log in to the Domain Management Interface, why am I redirected to another website?
The password is case-sensitive. If you are get an authentication error, copy and paste the password directly from the email sent by your Domain Provider. As well, do not include “WWW.” as part of the domain name when attempting to log in.
If your Domain Provider does not have their own Domain Management Interface, you can use the generic Domain Management Interface located here.
The Domain Management Interface looks similar to this:

Domain Management Interface
You can click the Manage Your Domain link located at the top to return to this screen. Below the Manage Your Domain link, you will see the domain name, when it expires, and whether a change is in progress.
If you have more than one domain in this profile, you will see a link called: Manage Another Domain. Click on the Manage Another Domain link to list the other domains that have been grouped together in a profile.
You will be able to update the following:
Manage Profile
This is a section allows you to change Domain login and password information, create sub users, and group multiple domains into different profiles.
Organization Contact

NOTE: Nominet, the registry for *.UK domain names, does not allow Registrants to modify the Organization name in this section. Accordingly, this section does not appear for *.UK names. To modify the Organization name for your .UK domain please refer to your Nominet Registration Certificate.
Admin Contact
This is the only person allowed to make changes to the domain. Ensure this email address is always kept up-to-date.
Billing Contact
This is the contact responsible for billing issues with regard to this domain’s registration. All renewal information will be sent to this address. The Billing Contact is not shown in the WHOIS database.

Domain Locking
This is the section which allows the domain to be ‘locked’ to prevent transfers and Name Server (also called DNS) changes. By locking the domain, transfers will automatically be rejected, and name servers (DNS) cannot be modified. If you are unable to change the Lock setting, contact your Domain Provider to have it changed.

Detailed answer
The organization name (also called the Registrant Name) for a .CA domain name is not a modifiable field and thus cannot be changed through the Manage Interface.
If you wish to modify the Organization name, you are transferring the ownership to a new owner and hence are changing the ownership of a domain.
To change the ownership of a domain, a “Registrant Transfer” must occur. This transfer is not like a “Registrar Transfer”, and it is a manual process!
The standard yearly charge applies for this type of Registrant Transfer, as it does renew the domain name for an additional one year period.
To start the process, you must contact your provider with the new ownership details. Your Provider will then submit the Registrant Transfer request to us.
The Registrant Transfer is a complex process requiring numerous confirmations from both the old and new Registrant! For this reason, below you will find the steps involved in the transfer (as many people do not reply to the required confirmations and the request then times out!)
Here is the process:
Step 1: Creating the new Registrant Profile for the new owner
- The new Registrant information is submitted to CIRA
- CIRA sends a confirmation email to Administrative Contact of NEW Registrant Profile.
- The Administrative Contact of NEW Registrant Profile must follow the directions in CIRA’s email to approve/confirm the new profile.
Step 2: Transferring the domain from the OLD Registrant Profile to the NEW Registrant Profile
- We initiate a transfer of domain from the OLD Registrant Profile to the NEW Registrant Profile.
- CIRA sends a confirmation email to Administrative Contact of the OLD Registrant Profile regarding the transfer.
- The Administrative Contact of the OLD Registrant must follow the directions in CIRA’s email to approve of the changes/transfer. They must also have access to their CIRA username/password to confirm these changes.
- Once the OLD Registrant has confirmed/approved of the transfer CIRA then sends a email to the Registrar (ie: Tucows) regarding transfer.
- We must go to CIRA’s site to approve transfer.
- Once Tucows confirms the transfer, CIRA sends a confirmation email to the Administrative Contact listed for the NEW Registrant Profile regarding the transfer.
- The Administrative Contact of the NEW Registrant Profile must agree to transfer by following the directions in CIRA’s confirmation email (using their new CIRA username/password).
Given the various steps, the ownership transfer can take some time to complete.

Different types of domain have different restrictions for the lengths of fields like First Name, Last Name, Address and others. You can test how many characters each field will hold by entering in different amounts of information until it produces an error, however it’s worth assuming the filed may not accept more than 49 characters. In the case of some types of domains, the maximum length of both the First Name and Last Name fields can not total more than 49 characters.

Detailed answer
Generally all domain owners are required to have full and valid contact information listed in the WHOIS database. This is part of the Registration Agreement and failure to do so can result in having your domain name deleted.
Some domain types have the option to use a WHOIS Privacy feature. Please speak to your Provider about this and if it is possible for your domain.

In the case of some domains, when you log into the Domain Management Interface you are sent to another website with a login page similar to this one:

Alternative Login Screen
You will need to login to this second website in order to make changes to your domain.
Additionally, please note many of the instructions contained in this help system will not work within this new website, however the new website will contain its own help system to assist you once you are able to login to it. Usually these are listed as “Help” and “FAQ” in the menu.
If you recall what the website looked like where you purchased your domain (or last managed it) this is likely the very same website. This website is managed by your Domain Provider and they can be contacted for support through pages within this new website.
If you don’t recall your username and password for this new website, there is a link to have this information emailed to you. This link is often labeled “Forgot your password or account information?”
