.CA Municipal Forms

To obtain the municipal domain, CIRA requires that the registrant complete and sign a “Certificate of Authorization to Apply for Registration of a Municipal Name” form.

This form must be printed on the Municipality’s Letterhead.

Upon receipt of this form, we will initiate the validation process and either approve the registration or return the documents for futher clarification.

If the registrant does not follow these instructions, he or she will not obtain the domain.

NOTE: If there is more than one Canadian municipality with the same name, an additional form may be required. For example, if there are two ‘Toronto’s in Canada – one in Ontario and one in Manitoba. If the municipality in Ontario wants ‘toronto.ca’, Toronto in Manitoba will have to give its consent.

If consent is not given, the municipality still has the option of a fourth-level registration (city.toronto.on.ca)
